2022 ESAC RULE CHANGES

Eastern Shore of Virginia Angler’s Club Changes for 2022
Please read carefully!!
1. The yearly tournament where adult club members earned a framed certificate for first and second place in each species will now be replaced with gift certificates for 1st and 2nd place from the Sea Hawk Sports Center in the amount of $50 for 1st and $25 for 2nd for all 26 of our different species listed on the club’s website at http://www.esanglersclub.org/ Just click on the 2022 leading fish entries tab to see the species that have a first and second places available. The same angler may NOT win both first and second places in the same species. Junior anglers will still receive trophies for first and second place finishes and WILL NOT be required to send a picture of their fish on a measuring tape. The website is normally updated weekly so the entries shown are usually up to date. Gift certificates and trophies will be given at the club’s award banquet in March of each year.

2. TO ENTER A FISH, an adult member MUST send a picture of your catch ON A TAPE MEASURE where the length is visibly identifiable. YOU MAY PINCH THE TAIL OF A FISH WHILE MEASURING! It is still required to send your name, species of fish, length to the closest ¼ inch rounded down if it does not make the next ¼ inch up, killed or released, and if you are an adult or junior angler (16 or under before Jan. 1 of the tournament year). You may enter your fish by EMAIL or by TEXT with your picture attached. Junior anglers do NOT need to have a picture of their fish on a measuring tape to enter a fish. Please put “Fish Entry” in the subject line of the email so that the fish chairman knows that the email is legit/not spam. Email address is fshnfol@verizon.net or you can text your entry to 757 709 1449. You will receive a return email or text to verify that your entry was received. Questions are welcome.

3. The Angler’s Club has 11 monthly “Outings” planned for the upcoming year. These “Outings” will now be called “Tournaments”. Three of these Outing/Tournaments are strictly for the youth of the community and they do not need to be a club member! Free cookout is after youth day fishing. For 2022 there are 2 youth fishing days, one held at Morley’s Wharf Pier on June 6 and one at Saxis Pier on Sept 18, both at 1pm to 2:30pm. The other youth event is the JT Bolding/Bill Mariner Youth Surf Fishing on Assateague from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday May 1. For the rest of the eight “Tournaments”, the Angler’s Club will put up $100 to the club member with the longest target species fish of the “Tournament”. An angler can bring a fish back to the dock at the specified end time to be measured by the Tournament chairman OR they can take a picture of the fish on a tape measure and just bring the picture to show the Tournament chairman. (DO NOT BRING AN ILLEGAL SIZE FISH BACK TO THE DOCK)! Make sure the length is IDENTIFIABLE if you take a picture or video. IN CASE OF A TIE OF LENGTH, AND the tied leading fish are brought back to the dock, the leading fish will be weighed on the same scale and the heavier fish will be declared the winner. IF THERE IS A TIE OF LENGTH AND both fish have been released, the first fish caught will be declared the winner. This time will be verified in the details section of the picture of the fish on a tape measure. IF THERE IS A TIE AND one fish is released and one fish is kept without a picture to be measured at the dock, then the tournament chairman can split the winnings 50/50. Each angler that plans to fish a Tournament should check in with the Tournament Chairman before leaving. If you plan on fishing but leave late, you can call the Tournament Chairman Ray Willett at 757 709 0215. All Tournament anglers must leave and return to the port listed on the tournament schedule at the appointed time in the Tournament schedule. You must be AT THE PORT at the end of the Tournament time written on the schedule for your fish to be counted. If you leave early and have a fish to enter, make sure you contact Ray Willett to make sure your fish gets entered correctly. Any ties will be decided by the Tournament Chairman. The Outings/Tournament schedule was mailed to each club member at the beginning of the year and is also listed on the club’s website at http://www.esanglersclub.org/ The $100 prize will only be available to club members in good standing and will be paid at the CLUB AWARDS BANQUET in March of each year. There will be membership applications at the take off port at each of the Tournaments. Club membership is only $15 per family and $10 for an individual to become a member of the Eastern Shore Angler’s Club for a whole calendar year. SO PLEASE BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO FISH WITH YOU! They are our future. Youth anglers will still earn points towards the Junior “Outings/Tournament” champion to be awarded at the March banquet. Junior tournament champ wins $100! The adults will no longer earn points and there will not be an adult tournament champ from this point forward. The award for adults winning a tournament is the $100 per tournament paid at the March banquet. Be sure to follow our Facebook and our new instagram account!
