Children’s Fishing Event a Big Success

Eighty-two Eastern Shore youngsters gathered on a bright and warm day at the Saxis Fishing Pier. Nearly 150 fish of various species were caught by the children, all of whom received a fishing rod and reel and a great introduction to angling under the auspices of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Anglers Club (www.esanglersclub.org).After the rigors of baiting hooks and landing fish, the children enjoyed hot dogs and soda and a presentation of fishing tackle to the three youngsters who caught the largest fish. The free event was made possible in part by a grant from the Recreational Fisheries Development Fund administered by the Virginia Marine Resources Commission; numerous volunteers from the Eastern Shore of Virginia Anglers Club; and the assistance of Sea Hawk Sports Center.
Shown in the first photo below are the children who caught the largest fish (from left): Makenna Hope (first place), Aaliyah Sigmon (second place), and Dustin Williams (third place). In the second photo are most of the youths who participated  in the children’s outing at the Saxis Fishing Pier. The third photo shows the large crowd of young anglers and adults fishing on the Saxis Fishing Pier.
